Training Workshop on Crop Committees, Early Warning Systems, and Crisis Management in Ortik Camp, Ardamata
Start Date : 02 Mei 2026
Status : Ongoing
The organization “Voice of Peace”, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, conducted a specialized training workshop on crop committees, early warning systems, and crisis management in Ortik Camp, Ardamata.
The workshop specifically targeted women, camp sheikhs, and leaders of pastoralist (nomadic) communities, recognizing their critical role in community-level decision-making, resource management, and conflict prevention within displacement settings.
The training focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of the functions of crop committees, particularly in managing agricultural resources, reducing disputes over land use, and supporting food security. Participants also explored the importance of early warning systems, including how to identify risk indicators, monitor emerging threats such as resource conflicts or environmental pressures, and communicate timely alerts to relevant actors.
In the area of crisis management, the workshop introduced practical tools and approaches for preparedness, coordination, and effective response during emergencies. Emphasis was placed on building community-based response mechanisms that enable local leaders and groups to act quickly and efficiently in addressing crises.
A key feature of the workshop was the inclusive engagement of women and pastoralist leaders, ensuring that diverse perspectives were incorporated into discussions on risk prevention and response. This approach aimed to strengthen collaboration between different community groups and promote shared responsibility in managing resources and resolving conflicts.
The training adopted a participatory methodology, encouraging dialogue, experience-sharing, and problem-solving based on real challenges faced in Ortik Camp and surrounding areas. This helped participants develop context-specific strategies that can be applied directly within their communities.
Overall, the workshop contributes to enhancing community resilience, reducing conflict risks, and improving preparedness, by equipping key stakeholders—women, camp leaders, and pastoralist representatives—with the knowledge and tools needed for early warning, effective crisis management, and sustainable coexistence.
